Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys...

"Mom, when I grow up can I be a cowboy and ride horses?"
"Sure, Sully.  When you grow up you can be anything you want to be."

"When I grow up I'm going to be like Captain Jack Sparrow and have a ship like the Black Pearl...and a Ducati for when I'm on land...and a surfboard."
"Wow, Theo..."

Later that day.

"Mom, you know what I really want to be when I grow up?  I want to build spaceships and rockets.  And I want to go to space in them.  I want to be a astronaut-rocket-spaceship-builder."
"You know, you can be anything you set your mind and heart to, Theo."
"Yeah, I really kinda want to be Jack Sparrow."

Something tells me they will work hard like cowboys and play like pirates.  Mostly, I hope they will follow their dreams, take risks, and become someone they are very proud of.

  1. totally. your boys are so lucky to have you. are they also into ninjas? seems like a lot of our boy pals here are lately.. now betty wants to be a playwright ninja. whateves, as long as she's happy.

    1. Yup, ninjas are a big deal. The older they get, the less I realize I actually know about boys. Good thing I've got some rad teachers. And Betty - a playwright ninja. She rocks!

  2. Katie, I especially love this! xo.
